Story of Meromdega Panchayat
Story of Meromdega Panchayat
District – Simdega
Block – Thethaitanger
Panchayat – Meromdega
State – Jharkhand
The people of Meromdega village of Meromdega Panchayat of T Tangar block of Simdega district were very mentally retarded. Because they were very hesitant to do any thing or work. They always lived in this fear. If we say anything, what will the people of the village society understand and what will they think. If someone wanted to eat something, he used to eat it secretly out of shame. Even if they wanted to wear something, they used to hesitate. Because they were ashamed of this. What will the people of the village society say and think if they do what they want, due to all this, the dream or thinking of the women of the village never changed and they were never able to change themselves or the environment of the village society. And all this could not happen only because of their narrow thinking and fear and shame. Then an organization started working in many panchayats of Thethaitanger block and that work was done with women and adolescents. When the work was started by the organization, the workers of the organization Chotanagpur Kalyan Niketan started going to every hamlet of Meromdega Panchayat and started telling the villagers of every hamlet about their organization and the work done by the organization. By doing this, gradually the workers started making their own and their organization’s identity in the field, then after a few days, women, adolescents and other villagers also started recognizing the workers. After that, a meeting was held with the women and they were told about their rights and changing their perspective. They were made aware in every way. Leadership development work was also done with them. And they were told about their own identity. That you are a woman, it does not mean that you just stay within the four walls of the house, you also have some rights, you also have some desires. Which you have to fulfill by moving ahead of yourself. In this way, women and adolescents were made aware by holding meetings with them. In this way, they were made aware and empowered. All the women and adolescents and other villagers of the Panchayat in my area of work never hesitate to approach any officer or do any work. And if any such incident happens, they themselves take advice about what they should do. In this way, the Chota Nagpur Kalyan Niketan organization and the workers of the organization brought about a change in the villagers and gradually they started knowing about their rights and the schemes coming in the Panchayat Raj. And then there was a change in the people there. This is a small change that was made by our organization Chotanagpur Kalyan Niketan. Which is the same till date. Now whenever there is any such incident or meeting, they definitely call us or the workers of our organization. This is the only change that has come, which can change further in the future.
