This is the story of a girl named Rani from Tukupani Panchayat under Thethaitanger Block of Simdega District.

It was my visited time for the meeting with beneficiaries. I had gone to Charmunda Toli, near Hai Ghat, Tukupani with CKN staffs. I did not know Rani at that time, but I had gone to Rani’s house for taking interview.I was casually talking to her family members. At that time, I suddenly saw Rani and after seeing her, I felt that Rani’s mental state was not looking normal, but at that time I did not feel right to talk to her mother immediately in this regard because I did not know completely whether her mental state was actually fine or not. After this, to satisfy ourselves whether Rani’s mental condition is really fine or not, we thought of talking to the warder of that village. And I went to the warder, on meeting him I came to know that Rani has a brother and a sister, and her father had died about ten years ago. Rani’s mental condition has not been normal for about 5-6 years due to the poor financial condition of the family, she has not received any treatment.

After being satisfied with this, I went back to Rani’s house and talked to her mother and she told me that Rani is not in this condition since childhood, but when Rani was about 12 years old, she had gone to the forest with other people to grazzing cows and goats for daily work and suddenly fainted on there, from there she was brought home, after this she always felt that someone was coming to kill her. And she did not do normal things, her mother thought that the reason for all this was black magic and for this she had also got exorcised by the village doctor. Rani’s father had passed away and the financial condition of the house was also not good, in such a situation they were unable to get Rani treated.

On hearing all this I told Rani’s mother that we have an institution named Chotanagpur Kalyan Niketan in which I work and our institution helps such women whose mental condition is not good, there is no such thing as black magic in which one should not even believe, rather by getting the girl treated her mental condition can improve, I told her that we will help them in getting the girl treated, for this her mother agreed and said that we want to get our girl treated. For this I took some of her documents and after two-three days I took her to the hospital for treatment where after examining the girl she was given some medicines. After this Rani was continuously taking her medicines. I went to Rani’s house and did follow up thrice in which Rani’s family was advised to give her medicines on time. Along with this, Rani was advised to give nutritious food to her. Her mother told that Rani sleeps a lot after taking the medicine. After a few months when I went to meet her again, I found that Rani’s mental condition has improved.

Rani is still taking these medicines and there is a lot of improvement in her condition. She is living her life well. When I was coming back from Rani’s house, I met Ward on the way and he said that Rani’s condition has improved a lot compared to before. Her mother was saying that if she had not met Aarti Didi of the organization, our daughter’s life would not have improved. Ward also said that I have also told other women of the village about this that if there are any such women whose mental condition is not good, they can contact the community mobilizer of the organization.
