On World Day Against Child Labour, CHOTANAGPUR KALYAN NIKETAN rescues 2 child labourers.
Today, on World Day Against Child Labour, Chotanagpur kalyan niketan rescued 2 child labourers with the help of district administration,DCPO Sumitra Baraik and police team. The rescued children, mostly from the states of Jharkhand were in the age-group 11-13 years. June is marked as the Action Month against child labour when the NGO is conducting raids and rescue operations to free children from the clutches of child labour and slavery in different parts of the country throughout the month.
“Our country today has a number of effective policies and stringent laws to ensure that child labour is eradicated from the nation. But unless and until there is awareness at the grassroots level and the entire society takes up the responsibility and does its bit, it will continue to be a challenge. We are all striving hard to make this nation child labour free and give every child a healthy, happy, safe and free childhood, and we will surely succeed,” said Priyanka Sinha,Director,CHOTANAGPUR KALYAN NIKETAN.
According to the report ‘Child Labour: Global estimates 2020, trends and the road forward’ published by International Labour Organization (ILO), 160 million children – 63 million girls and 97 million boys – were in child labour globally at the beginning of 2020, accounting for almost 1 in 10 of all children worldwide. Situation in India remains grim too. As per the 2011 Census, there remain 10.1 million working children in the age group of 5-14 years, which account for 3.9 per cent of the total child population.
